What Is Suede Leather?

Suede leather is made from the underside of the animal skin, because of which it has a soft and supple exterior. Usually made from lambskin because of its tender hide, Suede leather is an expensive, superior quality leather majorly used for shoes, gloves and leather accessories, often considered luxury products. Apart from lambskin, Suede leather is also generated from other animals such as deers, calves, cows and goats.

Suede leather is delicate and thin, and less durable in comparison to full-grain, traditional leather. But because of its lightweight, suede leather is breathable and easily malleable.

The Suede leather originates from Sweden as it was developed there first by their tanneries when they found this exemplary use for defective hides and used the napped, inner side of the hide. The word suede is derived from a French phrase, which translates to “gloves from Sweden.”

During the 20th century, Suede leather was widely used by haute couture designers and fashion icons because of its tender quality, superior appearance and softness, which gives the liberty to deploy and manipulate it like a regular cloth material.
